Gideon Baws (1975 – 2008)

Gideon Baws

Gideon Baws, a founding member of multi-award winning animation collective Shynola, passed away last week at the young age of 33. He was adored by friends and family, and the wider motion-graphic industry for his warmth, intelligence, talent and creativity. With Shynola he worked on some of the classic music videos of the last decade with bands such as Queens of the Stone Age, Blur, Radiohead and Athlete. Our sentiments go out to his family and close friends, and we will all remember him for the legacy he helped leave behind. You can watch videos from Shynola’s archive over at The Director’s Bureau.

Sad news indeed, a great creative soul. Shynola have inspired a huge number of creative minds, myself very much included, right from that early Quannum video through to their current output. When I was still finding my way in the creative industry I attended many a Shynola screening and Q&A session, all the inspiration from which I still carry with me today in my work. A great bunch of guys, I’m so sorry to hear about Gideon. Love and sentiments to all.
