inspiration: Sketchel series 2

Sketchels

Jeremyville have launched a new range of Sketchels for you to enjoy. Sketchels are custom-designed satchel bags and they gained a whole lotta press when Genevieve Gauckler teamed up with the Jeremyville team and international man of music Beck to produce the Beck Sketchel. The new series features work from our good friend Ben The Illustrator, Yupyland, One Side Zero and loads more. For everything you need to know about Sketchels you should head on over to the Sketchel site, where there’s also a full gallery… just look for any which are marked as the new smaller size… they’re the new ones! In the very near future we’ll be publishing an interview we’ve done with Jeremy as well, so check back soon!

inspiration: Gideon Baws (1975 - 2008)

Gideon Baws

Gideon Baws, a founding member of multi-award winning animation collective Shynola, passed away last week at the young age of 33. He was adored by friends and family, and the wider motion-graphic industry for his warmth, intelligence, talent and creativity. With Shynola he worked on some of the classic music videos of the last decade with bands such as Queens of the Stone Age, Blur, Radiohead and Athlete. Our sentiments go out to his family and close friends, and we will all remember him for the legacy he helped leave behind. You can watch videos from Shynola’s archive over at The Director’s Bureau.

inspiration: Eugene and Louise Bakery

If illustrators made cakes and chocolates what would they look like and how would they taste? The Belgium based, Eugene and Louise Bakery, is the answer to this sweet, sugary, candy sprinkled question. Even though quite old news, (their last product being posted back in March) I only discovered them recently, so I thought there must be people out there needing this tasty bit of knowledge too.

Dreamed up by design studio and lovely couple, Eugene and Louise. There seems to be chocolate treats and marzipan character madness from the site, but no price or other details, so I’m not sure if they are just for exhibition, or we can actually take a bite out these lovely pieces of art.

inspiration: Memory Cloud London

Memory cloud

Danger Danger! Generally smoke signals signify an attack! And if you were in and around Trafalgar square but unawares last week, you may have been given quite a fright! Alien-like light transmissions were beamed across the historical heart of London, in an attempt to mix ancient and modern forms of communication. The ICA, with the help of design & architecture outfit Minimaforms, hosted a special interactive event where members of the public were invited to send an SMS to the Memory Cloud, where it would be displayed as a mixture of light and air smoke signals. Check out photos of the event on the Memory Cloud flickr page.

inspiration: Dan Tobin Smith

Our source of inspiration today is Dan Tobin Smith. You’ve probably heard of him, if not… actually, no trust me, you have seen his photography. Having worked for such clients as Sony, Coca Cola, Orange, Bacardi, John Lewis, etc… the high profile projects go on and on.

His attention to detail and creative compositional set-ups, are a feast for the eyes. We particularly love the Typographic photographs, depicting E, V and A (hopefully he will create a full photographic alphabet in the near future). Other work can be described as controlled chaos, with a strong sense of movement, tension, like the objects are about to burst out of the scene.

Please enjoy more of his beautiful photography at http://www.dantobinsmith.com/
