The Alvar Aalto vase is one of the most famous pieces of glassware in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD, unveiled in 1937 at the Paris World Fair, and becoming an international phenomenon even to this day. Singapore doodle giant, the Master of GardenSilly, Mr Eeshaun (please look forward to his interview, featured here soon) has had his drawings transferred onto 2 of these vases beautifully and they’re available through Stylenordic.

Cubeecraft is a site dedicated to paper toys. In a nutshell, these are toys you simply download, cut out and fold. The Cubeecraft site has shed-loads you can download from The Rocketeer to Lion-O… but one of their toys escaped this week (Stewie Griffin to be precise) and tried to get himself in as a late submission to the Turner Prize! You can see more pics and download the paper toy from the Cubeelog. It’d get my vote! Thanks Ben for the link!

With the US elections only a day away, we decided it would be good to have something vaguely political to show we do watch the new every now and again! Karen Caldicott is a sculptor and artist based in New York, but originally from the UK. She’s done a lot of high profile work for clients including TIME Magazine, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone and Newsweek. As you can see above she’s done a load of clay models of Obama, McCain et al to mark the upcoming election, some of which she’s animated as well! For those out there who aren’t politically-minded there’s also loads of entertainment-based models, including the whole Simpsons family!

If illustrators made cakes and chocolates what would they look like and how would they taste? The Belgium based, Eugene and Louise Bakery, is the answer to this sweet, sugary, candy sprinkled question. Even though quite old news, (their last product being posted back in March) I only discovered them recently, so I thought there must be people out there needing this tasty bit of knowledge too.
Dreamed up by design studio and lovely couple, Eugene and Louise. There seems to be chocolate treats and marzipan character madness from the site, but no price or other details, so I’m not sure if they are just for exhibition, or we can actually take a bite out these lovely pieces of art.

Launching this week is Gallery 1988’s Cover Band exhibition, where 50 artists have been invited to use the greatest LP covers of all time as their canvas. Tessar Lo was one of those 50 artists and was given the OK Computer cover as his canvas (shown above!). What is particularly nice about the final piece is the fact that it’s completely unique yet you still see snapshots of the original artwork breaking through. So if you’re in LA at all this month then you should wander down, as it looks like a great show! Check out Tessar’s site for more of his drawings and paintings as well.

Sam Gilbey is back with updates to his blog, where he talks about all the work he’s been doing for a new TV show, No Heroics, such as this comic strip that the two main superhero characters used to star in! But what really caught our eye was his frickin’ awesome personal piece, inspired by everyone’s favourite Kiwi comedy duo, Flight of The Conchords! And if you don’t know who Flight of the Conchords are then check out the official site of their TV show, and find out more about New Zealand’s fourth most popular digi-folk paradists!

If you were lucky enough to be in Liverpool during the last 3 months, you would have seen the 125 miniature ‘Super Lamb Bananas’ at various locations around the city. Unfortunately, the ‘Super Lamb Bananas’ have just been auctioned off a few days ago. Luckily, the Thunder Chunky team discovered them just before the auction, as they were gathered for cleaning up and signing by the artists in a secret location. It was definitely a sight to behold, as we entered the building and were greeted by a sea of Lamb Bananas. Here are a few pics that we took… goodbye Lamb Bananas! Thanks to Zotos for the photos.
