inspiration: TC Xmas Selection Box (No. 5)

Our last, final, end of the line box has been added to the Xmas Selection Box page and it’s one which I think everyone will want to get their hands on!

Raw Design have very kindly donated one of their festive Christmas By Colour poster & wrapping paper combos. The almighty TADO have sent in one of their uber-cool Cannibal Funfair vinyls (doodled on to boot!) as well as a mushroom vinyl and loads of stickers! We’ve thrown in a Burgerman Snot Zombie tee and Print Project card set, and some badges. Al Heighton chipped in with a few postcards and a xmas card. There’s a hand-printed Peskimo card and stickers. There’s another of Kenn Munk’s paper toy templates. Ben The Illustrator was super-generous and has sent a second full set of World Lovin prints, signed and numbered! And a hand-drawn Speakerdog! And finally, Insolent Candy Floss donated another postcard and sticker set.

So, it’s your last chance now to sign up over at….

inspiration: TC Xmas Selection Box (No. 1)

TC xmas selection box 1

As I’m sure you’re all aware by now, the xmas project has launched for 2008, and each time we put together a new box of things to give away we’ll do a little post on here to tell you about it. So what does the first box have in it?

Well, Ben the Illustrator has chipped in with a whole set of signed World Lovin’ posters and a hand-drawn Speakerdog doodle; Al Heighton has thrown in a set of postcards and a fold out poster; Andy Smith has contributed a girls “Prepare to Meet Thy Doom” t-shirt and some small prints; we’ve chucked the TC Print Project in and some of Stephen’s cards and stickers; Kenn Munk added a large format DIY paper toy poster; and last but not least, Graphic Airlines (all the way from Hong Kong!) sent us a cool plush, a Step by Step tshirt and a sticker set.

So as you can see there’s loads of great stuff, all for one lucky person! And there will be more from Ben, Andy, Kenn and GAL in future boxes. If you’ve like a chance to win then go to…

inspiration: Speakerdog, La Serie Mexico!

It’s been a little while since we’ve heard anything from Speakerdog and we were starting to get worried where he’d got to. But not to worry, he’s just been sunning himself in Mexico. The result is a new series of 45 speakerdog paper toys, decorated with the artwork of an all-Mexican crew of artists. Check out the La Serie Mexico micropage for all the artists and their designs. A couple of our favourites featured above are Javier Henriquez Lara and Dave Gamez

inspiration: Sketchel series 2

Sketchels

Jeremyville have launched a new range of Sketchels for you to enjoy. Sketchels are custom-designed satchel bags and they gained a whole lotta press when Genevieve Gauckler teamed up with the Jeremyville team and international man of music Beck to produce the Beck Sketchel. The new series features work from our good friend Ben The Illustrator, Yupyland, One Side Zero and loads more. For everything you need to know about Sketchels you should head on over to the Sketchel site, where there’s also a full gallery… just look for any which are marked as the new smaller size… they’re the new ones! In the very near future we’ll be publishing an interview we’ve done with Jeremy as well, so check back soon!

inspiration: Wish You Were Here

Wish You Were Here

Ben The Illustrator wades his way back onto the TC shore with a new range of art prints entitled ‘Wish You Were Here‘. It’s a set of fifteen 13″ x 19″ giclee prints which has been the labour of love for Ben and his wife Fi for many months now. We thought about summing them up ourself but we thought to ourselves… why not get Ben to do it for us? So we did!

“So, Fi and I have been working on bringing this range of prints together for a long time now, really focusing on what goes in it, developing the variety, providing something for everyone and giving me all the time I need to get the artwork perfect. Fi (my wife, business partner and inspiration) is an interior design addict, and we’ve approached this set different to art prints we’ve done before, by creating prints that will appeal to different people, with different homes, different colour schemes and different styles. It was a really great way to work, a little more of a professional approach than a creative approach, more considered design than pure art. We’re really proud to have a set that is already being relished by design-conscious families as well, something for parents and children to enjoy in their homes.

The ‘Happy Together’ print

For me personally, creating these landscape-based art prints, is always an enjoyable exercise in taking my inspiration and excitement from nature, travels and our environment and putting it into artwork. In this series there are pieces which have direct links to my own interests in the outside world, ‘There Will Always Be’ is simply straight from the Cornish coast, where we live, anytime of day we can get down to the beach and the waves are there, moving back and forth, guaranteed; ‘There Was Magic, Then…’ is the Lake District views’ epic inspiration and ‘Happy Together’ popped into my head while we were watching ‘Pacific Abyss’ on TV! (If we’re not out in nature, we’ll find some on TV). We have ideas to take our ‘Wish You Were Here!’ project further, hopefully into illustrated homewares, so stay tuned for all that, ‘Ben the Illustrator Teapots’ pouring into a mug near you soon.”

You can buy the prints now at the Wish You Were Here shop. Should brighten up even the dreariest of houses!

inspiration: PAPER AND INK

Jon Burgerman and World Lovin prints

This week we’ve been inspired by a number of screenprints, ready to brighten the walls of anyone’s studio, sunhouse or shed.

Jon Burgerman took part in a show called Blisters On My Fingers (Beatles reference?), for which he produced this 2-colour print. You can still grab one of the 20 or so copies left from Print Club.

Ben The Illustrator also dropped us a line to let us know about his World Lovin’ Posters. All you eco-friendly designers out there will love these as they’re printed on FSC certified paper and only use vegetable inks. Each print is limited to a run of 100 as well.

And if you’re still looking for more screen-print inspiration then check out Boxbird, who launched last month. They have a great variety of silkscreen and Giclée prints and asked Stephen to put something together for them, which you can see here.

Other news this week:

Inspiration pics

Blind Drawings, Crayonlegs and TBFH

Kev Speck dropped us a line telling us about a project he’s working on to keep his creative juices flowing - Blind Drawings… The Boy Fitz Hammond has a new tee up on Threadless called Small Mammal Flying Machine… and we were introduced to a new illustration treat, Crayonlegs (check out their Literal Facial Hair illustrations… Goatee anyone?).

interview with BEN THE ILLUSTRATOR

Ben The Illustrator

Hi Ben, after hovering around Thunder Chunky for quite a while now, you’ve finally got a feature all to yourself (and Speakerdog)! What have you been up to today then?

Today’s been pretty sweet, I finished off a set of prints, Speakerdog mini-prints, so now they’re up for sale in the shop. They’re called the ‘End Of The Rainbow’ mini-series, 4 prints, each with a different place at the end of the rainbow. I’m pretty pleased with them. After that I did some updates on the Speakerdog site, then I took Eddie the dog (an actual dog) for a walk, it was raining and there were swarms of little flies all over the place, not the mellowest walk I ever had. Had home-made vege-burgers for tea.
