West Berlin Gallery is host again to another fabulous exhibition, this time just fronted by one Blood Sweat Vectorian, Cuypi. This will be his first Solo Exhibition, entitled ‘Life is a gift’, displaying his unique range of Typography plus Character illustration combinations, which cover a variety of medias including digital prints on canvas, shirts, toys and skateboards.

“..It’s the rhythm of my life, and my life is the rhythm of my music. Before I start drawing an illustration, I put my headphones on and choose a playlist which matches my mood. Then I try to translate feelings into images..” – Cuypi

inspiration: MUGO = (MUsic on the.GO)

We here at Thunder Chunky are big fans of Vinyl toys, even with our limited incomes and disapproving girlfriends. We have been waiting patiently for an MP3 X Vinyl toy crossover ever since learning about the increasingly popular rise of the mimobots. And now that day has come, the emergence of MUGO (cue* holy light, and epic wave crashing soundbite). These lovely new musical creatures are so amazing, I feel their potential will be no less than that of the mimobots. They’re MP3 Players, they’re Flash Drives, they’re Vinyl Toys, they’re being shipped towards the Thunder Chunky HQ as we speak.

Creatives’ involved include fellow Blood Sweat Vector artists, YUP and Tougui, recently featured paper guru Shin Tanaka, plus awesome illustrators Pulco Mayo and Julie West.

“…Mugo are a shy race of creatures. They are highly individualized ‚Äì sometimes timid and resourceful, sometimes mischievous, but always on the cutting edge. Mugo are born with a natural gift for music, art and culture. They store knowledge. They inspire. You may not know it, but Mugo have been here all along, living in the background of your pictures, riding the wavelengths of your favorite songs. Until recently they felt too awkward to allow themselves to be seen, but they have grown more comfortable with themselves, and so they are coming out of the shadows and into your heart…”

Fellow Blood Sweat Vector artist, Meka, the undead maestro, the head of the infamous Zombie Corp has been working very hard lately, so hard that his hands have fallen off. Firstly, there’s his special T-Shirt feature and interview at La Fraise. Then his super sweet pillows from Kolorys, perfect for resting those undead heads.

“…Well. Name’s Meka, grand guru of the ZOMBIEcorp. Illustrator, and graphic designer as a day job. Quebec transplant for a year now, after 27 spent in France. Main hobbies: partying in all the bars of Montreal, or anything that allows me to extend my zombie universe. Characteristic: a really bad tendency to hyperactivity. My strongest fetishes are sneakers and designer toyz….”

interview with Jared Nickerson (aka J3Concepts)

j3-main

Jared Nickerson is a busy man to track down. When he’s not creating bright bold character driven vector work for clients such as Activision, Nintendo, Microsoft, Ryzwear and Vice he’s creating tees for laFraise – where he is also the Community Director. His work has been applied onto tees, prints, sneakers, iphone apps and even skis! After all this, he is also one of the founders of renowned vector community site BloodSweatVector. We caught up with him after he returned from his much deserved break in Tahiti, to ask a few questions…
