interview with EESHAUN

Eeshaun

There is a strange little garden located in Singapore. This garden is called ‘GardenSilly’, and the master of this place is ‘Eeshaun’, possibly Singapore’s answer to Jon Burgerman. He doodles all day and all night, on anything he can get his hands on, from walls to post boxes, chairs to bags, etc, etc, etc. But that’s not all; he’s also responsible for educating the new blood of the Singaporean art and design scene, helping shape the culture and identity of his country.

interview with AL HEIGHTON

Al Heighton

Doncaster-based illustrator Al Heighton is probably familiar to a lot of our UK readers, as his work has graced the pages of many publications and is a regular contributor to the Guardian. His deceptively simple illustrations, teamed with his love of humour, have given his work a distinctive style which jumps off the page. We managed to steal a bit of his time to talk about doodling, postcards and “the big Spadoosh”.

Poke Studio

Some great work by Poke over in the Welsh Valleys. Their cute characters can be seen on the latest PSP 3000 campaign, which you may have seen the latest commercial for! They’ve also got a great back catalogue of illustration and motion graphic work, and for all those freebie feasters you can download one of their many tasty wallpapers.

Illustrations

Thanks to everyone who has dropped us a line recently, we’re always amazed by the amount of talented illustrators out there! We thought it would be good to showcase a few for you all to enjoy. Working clockwise from top-left we have… Aaron Miller, an up-and-coming illustrator whose work recently featured in Computer Arts Magazine… MrBowlegs, a multi-disciplinary designer who has just updated his site with a ton of new work… Thomas Weinreich, a Danish animator and illustrator who has some neat character sketches on his blog… and last, but not least, illustr8a, a Tokyo-based, Edinburgh-born artist with a really unique surreal portrait style.

Dang, that was a lot of info in a small space! Enjoy browsing through their work!

inspiration: Eugene and Louise Bakery

If illustrators made cakes and chocolates what would they look like and how would they taste? The Belgium based, Eugene and Louise Bakery, is the answer to this sweet, sugary, candy sprinkled question. Even though quite old news, (their last product being posted back in March) I only discovered them recently, so I thought there must be people out there needing this tasty bit of knowledge too.

Dreamed up by design studio and lovely couple, Eugene and Louise. There seems to be chocolate treats and marzipan character madness from the site, but no price or other details, so I’m not sure if they are just for exhibition, or we can actually take a bite out these lovely pieces of art.

inspiration: Milk time!

Milk!

Now we all know how important it is for us to drink our milk, but there are an incredible amount of great campaigns out there to make sure we don’t forget. The latest one we’ve come across is the Must Drink More Milk campaign (top image) which is a series of short ads featuring some great stop-motion animation from people like Bent Image Lab. Then of course there’s a host of online stuff for Got Milk? (middle images) such as the mock-star White Gold and the award-winning Get The Glass interactive board game. In the UK there’s more milk stop-motion fun to be had from Cravendale (bottom image). You can watch one of the Cravendale ads here and also make your own video here.

Got any other great milk ads you like? Then post a comment and let us know! Now go drink some milk!
