inspiration: A Beautiful Machine

beautiful-machine01

If you’re into bikes and the beautiful sub-cultures that surround them you’ll like what’s going on down in Bristol. McFaul studios, Howies and ripedigital have got together to celebrate it all in an 2 week event entitled A beautiful Machine. Alongside the is a huge line up of beautifully printed art from likes of ilovedust, Jon Burgerman, Steven Bonner. There are some great talks from ex BMX champion Tim March and James Bowthorphe (round-the-world record holder), as well as many others in the biking world.

Although we weren’t there to witness the launch night last friday ourselves, we hear it went pretty well and there has been a special ladies themed night already.

The actual art exhibition finishes Friday 9th April, but please make of a note of the special evening talks on the Beautiful Machine Calendar which shouldn’t be missed.

inspiration: Computer Arts Projects | issue 128: Freelance Survival Guide

CAPxTC-main02

“…The dedicated folk at McFaul Studio slaved right to the wire to deliver a graphic novella packed with deadline demons, tax zombies and technological pitfalls, and quite frankly there’s no better way to introduce our freelance survival issue…”

Surviving as a freelancer is a complicated task indeed, well, for the majority of us anyway. They’re those that just graduate and become superstars straight away, and then there’s the one who slave away, building up the experience slowly; the veterans. This issue is a collection of all that design industry advice, all that experience, all pack in to this beautiful looking magazine.

This is Computer Arts Projects Issue 128 | “The Freelance Survival Guide” !! This issue can not be faulted at all, from the mindblowing gatefold cover by McFaul, (one of the greatest UK design studios) to the detailed content that explores the world of freelancing.

I would like to take this chance to show my gratitude towards Computer Arts Projects for letting a novice illustrator like myself to be involved in such a great issue, maybe ‘the greatest’ issue of Computer Arts Projects.

inspiration: Stoned on Saturdays

sos-tc-main

We here at Thunder Chunky don’t really endorse drug taking, alcoholism or violence, (we’re a clean, happy, positivity promoting, design loving kinda place) but we’ve got to say these stunning illustrations over at Stoned on Saturdays are pretty awesome. We were unaware of this awesomeness until Ben the Illustrator highly recommended the site to us. One of McFaul’s superstar designers, melbs (aka Chris Malbon) has just recently launched this site, a place to give new life to the old sketches he used to draw back in the day…

“…I found my sketchbooks out a few months back, I don’t smoke anymore, too old, life’s moved on…but i thought it would be fun to bring all those doodles to life, so here’s the result, my Stoned On Saturdays series…”

inspiration: Another Example

As long-time admirers of McFaul Studio we’re always excited to see the directions different members of the team go off in. So we’re happy to announce that Elliott Grubb is now available for hire, under the new name of Another Example! With work ranging from packaging design for Levi’s to t-shirts for T In The Park, there’s a stack of great work on his site. And I’d recommend checking out his news section as there’s some rather good lookin’ Reading and Leeds festival print sneak peaks. Go check it, check it out!

inspiration: And There Will Be Unicorns

and-there-will-be-unicorns

Tom Burden, the fourth member of McFaul Studio, is venturing into the big bad world of design on his own, under the intriguing title And There Will Be Unicorns. Whilst at McFaul, Tom was able to work with clients such as Disney, Will Young, Faber & Faber and Nokia, whilst of course helping out with the always-interesting McFaul brand. But now he’s on his own and looking for projects and collaborations. You find out more or drop him a line via his brand spanking new site.

inspiration: McFaul’s new pad

McFaul website

In their ongoing-quest to conquer the world of design, the talented folks at McFaul have launched their swanky new website. Featuring a stack of their work in a very slick Flash interface, you’ll def lose a large chunk of your lunch break browsing through their stuff! I’d recommend launching it fullscreen as well, as it looks ace!
