Calling all B-movie lovers and retro futurist sci-fans! We have some lovely art work for you here by The Red Dress. Olivia Chancellor and Ollie Bland are a husband and wife illustration duo working out of their London studio, pumping out vintage visuals which will make your heart throb with joy!

Throughout their 10 year career they have lovingly crafted their stylised imagery with oil, acrylic and digital media. This had led to a diverse client base in the fashion, motion and art worlds.

Personally the work reminds me of the glory days of reading exciting fiction books in primary / secondary school!

We here at TC have been big fans of Meomi’s cute critters for a fair few years now, so we were chuffed to hear that they’d landed the contract to do the mascots for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. And with only a year to go till the fuzzy fellas (including a Sasquatch!) launch the event, we thought it’d be great to sneak a chat with Vicki Wong – one half of the design super-duo!

Here at Thunder Chunky we’re big fans of the Graphic Novel format, so we pleased to see this epic new trailer for the Astonishing X-men Motion Comic.

Motion comics are the wildest dreams of the “True Believers” of graphic novels and comics, bringing the pages of Marvel Comics alive.

The artistry remains true to the heritage of panel-by-panel graphic storytelling, boasting groundbreaking graphics, sensational soundscapes and, of course, the explosiveness of the Mighty Marvel Universe.

I think in general the format is a nice change from the CGI mega blockbuster productions we’re used to seeing from Marvel.

For all you Pixar fans out there, there’s a real treat for you coming up! Publisher DK is releasing a new book called Pixarpedia which, as the name suggests, is an encyclopedia of everything Pixar! They kindly sent us an advance copy and we can vouch for just how good the book is. Full of brilliant artwork and in-depth detail about all the key characters from all the films, there’s also behind-the-scenes interviews with key staff covering areas such as graphic design and sound engineering. And to celebrate the release of the book, DK have teamed up with Pixar and Total Film to launch an animation competition, with the amazing prize of an exclusive trip for two to Pixar Animation Studios in San Francisco!! Here’s what’s involved:

Create an original animation on the theme of ‘An Animated Adventure’

Short-listed animations will be judged by a team of Pixar artists, so that’s a pretty darn good opportunity for exposure in itself! You’ve got until the end of November to enter, and there’s more details over on the official Pixarpedia page.

Here’s a strange one, what do you get when you mix a Toyota IQ, a warehouse in belgium and some over zealous typographers? The creation of the new IQ font.

Two typographers ( Pierre & Damien ) and a pro race pilot (Stef van Campenhoudt) collaborated to design a font with a car. The car movements were tracked using a custom software, designed by interactive artist Zachary Lieberman.

The final results are ambitious yet neat, and you can download the full IQ font set here.

I was captivated by a wonderful little flash game | animation today ‘Little Wheel’ made by One Click Dog. It took an age to load, (please be patient) but I wasn’t disappointed as the opening sequence kicked in and I was greeted by this interesting, eerie mechanical world. The illustration (reminicient of Rolitoland but more 3D) and how the elements are animated are quite detailed and full of charm. The small puzzles and tasks are nicely balanced, not too hard, but should still give you some trouble. The only negative point I can think of is how short it was, so hopefully they’ll create more soon.

Stumbled across the trailer for a really interesting looking film called Vinyl & Co, which delves into the world of vinyl toy design. As they describe it, it tells the history of the movement from Hong-Kong to Tokyo, from New York to Los Angeles while passing by London and Paris. Looks ace!
