inspiration: Boxbird | A to B Exhibition

Main

After the roaring success of last years film inspired, Cinemascope Exhibition, and gaining the Brighton, Fringe Festival 2009 ‘Best in Show Winners’ award, Boxbird are back and aiming for that grand prize again. This time round they have opted for the handmade approach, asking all artists involved to produce something using contemporary printmaking skills & Illustration. The theme this year is equally exciting, inspired by travel, and weird and wonderful adventures, and just the few previews above show the diversity in styles and imagination for the amazing journey that will be the A to B Exhibition.

“…Join Boxbird and over 30 artists from across the globe for one of the Brighton Fringe Festival’s most eagerly anticipated exhibitions with new and exclusive work by some incredible talent including Jon Burgerman, Graham Carter, Lidia de Pedro, Peepshow Illustration Collective and Modern Toss…” – Boxbord Gallery

Unfortunately, we don’t have anymore information on other artists’ submissions, we do however have details about ‘Chasing Constellations, Screenprint, Stephen Chan’ that I would love to share with everyone (sorry for the shameless plug again).

This exhibition shows off his immense talent and creativity, infecting us with his own unique style.

yutaonoda_lead

Following our Society6 grant last year to find up and coming talent from around the world, we are awarding fantasy creationist Yuta Onoda with a featured interview. inspiration: The work of Lisa Corbett

I just fell in love with the drawings and work of Lisa Corbett!

I’m not sure what I like the most about her! Her toys, paintings or illustrations… One thing I’m sure of is that I’m very inspired by her sketchbooks. I love the way she combines all kinds of media, hand drawings with collages, watercolours and stickers.

I also like the way her work is recognisable even though she is changing and experimenting with a variety of techniques and the styles in her illustration.

Don’t miss out on her blog and Etsy shop!

inspiration: Vintage Joy with The Red Dress

Calling all B-movie lovers and retro futurist sci-fans! We have some lovely art work for you here by The Red Dress. Olivia Chancellor and Ollie Bland are a husband and wife illustration duo working out of their London studio, pumping out vintage visuals which will make your heart throb with joy!

Throughout their 10 year career they have lovingly crafted their stylised imagery with oil, acrylic and digital media. This had led to a diverse client base in the fashion, motion and art worlds.

Personally the work reminds me of the glory days of reading exciting fiction books in primary / secondary school!

You can follow the Red Dress on twitter – @The_Red_Dress. Also, there’s Red Dress on Debut Art. And of course, there’s The Red Dress site

West Berlin Gallery is host again to another fabulous exhibition, this time just fronted by one Blood Sweat Vectorian, Cuypi. This will be his first Solo Exhibition, entitled ‘Life is a gift’, displaying his unique range of Typography plus Character illustration combinations, which cover a variety of medias including digital prints on canvas, shirts, toys and skateboards.

“..It’s the rhythm of my life, and my life is the rhythm of my music. Before I start drawing an illustration, I put my headphones on and choose a playlist which matches my mood. Then I try to translate feelings into images..” – Cuypi

inspiration: Mixed-up-media from Chris Brett

chris-brett-1

Today I’ve been enjoying the slightly warped illustrations of the talented Toronto-based illustrator Chris Brett, like his Spy Guy print above! The characters are surreal enough by themselves but when added to Chris’ mixed-media style they take on a freak-show-esque quality… in a good way!! You can see a whole stack of his work and buy some of them as prints over on his Society6 page. Well worth a look!
