Thunder Chunky

inspiration: Jetpac Magazine

Jetpac Magazine

Back in the day when Thunder Chunky was a fledgling Liverpool design magazine, Neil Richards was a big supporter of us and was one of the first people we featured. Now he’s back with Jetpac Magazine, a pdf culture magazine that aims to showcase photography, illustration, design and lots of other interesting stuff! The first issue is now available for download, and the more people who can contribute to the next issue the better!

inspiration: Andrew Brooks photography

Andrew Brooks Hidden Manchester

Been admiring the distinctive photos of Manchester-based photographer Andrew Brooks. He creates his images by combining a ton of different captures, sometimes using over 300 different shots. Shown above are a selection of pics from his Hidden Manchester exhibition. He’s also done some video work for people like the Tings Tings!

Tod Kapke

We’re back after our winter break and we hope everyone had a bonzer xmas and new year. We kick off 2009 with some fresh artwork from US-based photographer-illustrator Tod Kapke. Tod bridges the gap between photography and illustration to create surreal, dream-like imagery. And on his site you can see some of the process behind the work as well, which we always love!

inspiration: The First FPC Exhibition

The Fashion Photographers Circle (FPC | created by Hans Neumann), is a group of photographers who wants to show the artistic side of fashion photography. They will be launching their first ever exhibition early January 2009, all the way over in the ‘MAD’ gallery, Peru (curated by Cansei). The theme, ‘20 photographers, 14 countries, 1 dress’, each photo projects overwhelming style and the individual flair of each person, with completely different approaches.

more images and info about this event coming soon…

inspiration: It could be… Paul Paper?

An interesting little project, “It could be me, but it’s actually Paul Paper” is a mix of illustrations, graphics, typography and photography exploring that very sentence. The results are unique to each artist’s style and expertise, creating a wonderful collection of artwork (a small publication might also be in the pipeline, fingers-crossed).

Images above (Top left – going clockwise) are Adam Dedman | Kuanth | Alison Richards | And a shameless plug for myself, Stephen Chan, :p.

inspiration: Dan Tobin Smith

Our source of inspiration today is Dan Tobin Smith. You’ve probably heard of him, if not… actually, no trust me, you have seen his photography. Having worked for such clients as Sony, Coca Cola, Orange, Bacardi, John Lewis, etc… the high profile projects go on and on.

His attention to detail and creative compositional set-ups, are a feast for the eyes. We particularly love the Typographic photographs, depicting E, V and A (hopefully he will create a full photographic alphabet in the near future). Other work can be described as controlled chaos, with a strong sense of movement, tension, like the objects are about to burst out of the scene.

Please enjoy more of his beautiful photography at http://www.dantobinsmith.com/

inspiration: Eleanor Hardwick

Eleanor Hardwick

Touted as the latest young photography sensation and having received offers and features with the likes of BBC, The Independant, Dazed and Confused, at just fifteen, Eleanor Hardwick is thought-provoking and years beyond her age, whilst incorporating her innocent surroundings and subjects with a dark underlying tone. You could do worse than flicking through her collection today, and wish you studied photography at a much younger age.
