Kicking off today, featuring new paintings and drawings, in conjunction with the new store opening of ActuallyActually, Singapore. Eeshaun must be one of the hardest working illustrators in Singapore. Looking at his portfolio puts most of us to shame. In just 2009 alone, he’s produced over 25+ new pieces of work, with clients ranging from Ikea, Yahoo, Hewlett Packard, Addidas to name a few. This exhibition shows off his immense talent and creativity, infecting us with his own unique style.

inspiration: Hairloom + Caramel

It’s always exciting to hear about new design events, exhibitions and stores opening, but at the same time really depressing. Usually they’re a million miles away, or well, we rarely have time to attend due to our day jobs. So, when we got an email through from Kuanth, about his new ‘Salon/Cafe’ opening in Singapore, we were both amazed ‘and’ down.

The recently opened ‘Hairloom & Caramel’ is a combination of hair, beauty, fashion and food, with a warm, cozy atmosphere. The graphics, exteriors, interiors, furnishings, tableware are lovingly hand-crafted and chosen. The images of the home-made foods and desserts make the mouth water and stomach rumble. Why is it so far away? Hopefully, they’ll do so well, they’ll open another branch in Liverpool…… please……!!!

interview with EESHAUN

Eeshaun

There is a strange little garden located in Singapore. This garden is called ‚ÄòGardenSilly’, and the master of this place is ‚ÄòEeshaun’, possibly Singapore’s answer to Jon Burgerman. He doodles all day and all night, on anything he can get his hands on, from walls to post boxes, chairs to bags, etc, etc, etc. But that’s not all; he’s also responsible for educating the new blood of the Singaporean art and design scene, helping shape the culture and identity of his country.

inspiration: Silly ‚ÄòAlvar Aalto’ vase

Aalto glassware

The Alvar Aalto vase is one of the most famous pieces of glassware in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD, unveiled in 1937 at the Paris World Fair, and becoming an international phenomenon even to this day. Singapore doodle giant, the Master of GardenSilly, Mr Eeshaun (please look forward to his interview, featured here soon) has had his drawings transferred onto 2 of these vases beautifully and they’re available through Stylenordic.

interview with SOKKUAN

sokkuan lead image

Sokkuan is a super hardworking, talented individual (from Malaysia / based in Singapore) with grand ambitions. She hopes to be a rich fulltime professional housewife: but hopefully she won’t give up on her illustration career. She’s well-versed in a variety of illustration styles, but her Sophie Black character is where she truly shows her charm. I engage Sokkuan in a series of strange and weird questions, with some normal ones thrown in there as well, just so it makes a little sense.

inspiration: Liquid City

Liquid City

Comic, and art fans alike should start getting excited about the release of Liquid City, in November. A showcase of some of the best and emerging talents from Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and more. Already familiar with the American comics, the Japanese manga, (and breaking through in recent years), the Korean manhwa?… this collection of work will expose you to the Southeast Asian comic / art scene.

“LIQUID CITY presents the unique visions of artists and writers based mainly in Southeast Asia,” said editor Sonny Liew. “The creators involved range from established figures in the region’s comics communities like Lat and Gerry Alanguilan, to exciting new talents like Nguyen Thanh Pong, kenfoo and Shari Chankhamma.”

Our good friend Kuanth (who we interviewed recently) also features with a short comic piece, thanks to him for this link.

interview with KUANTH

Kuanth

Everyone makes mistakes. Every artist, designer, every human being does. We all do, but according to Kuanth, mistakes are a good thing, and I have to agree with him completely. “…perfection is boring, and mistakes can be beautiful…” they keep things interesting, unpredictable, exciting. So please enjoy the following interview, it is probably full of mistakes by me: but hopefully still fun, with a human touch and insightful into the ideas from Kuanth…
