A day in the eyes of Ben The Illustrator

The first in a new series of features where we delve into the eyes of the creative folks who inspire us. Part of the TC gang, Ben The Illustrator is someone you will be very familiar with, but we asked him to take photos throughout the day, to show the day-to-day side of being an illustrator. More often than not it’s our dog Doze that wakes me up, he likes to be up and out early!

ben_2

Tea for me and a juice for my son Woody.

ben_3

Look outside, looks like a good one.

ben_4

Doze usually just goes back to snoozing somewhere.

ben_5

Music in the kitchen, usually some kind of indie rock or hiphop, today it’s Yellowcard.

ben_6

Fill the house with music.

ben_7

I read this great article while I ate my breakfast.

ben_8

Choose sneakers for the day, always Adidas for me.

ben_9

Drop Woody off at nursery for the day.

ben_10

Head up to the studio, which is the top floor of our house.

ben_11

Wall of words as you enter the studio.

ben_12

The studio! That’s my half, the other half is used by Fi, my wife, but she’s not working in the studio today.

ben_13

Probably the most important piece of paper in the studio.

ben_14

Fi’s half of the room, where she hand-makes our fabric products.

ben_15

A bit of daydreaming looking up at the skylights.

ben_16

Working on an illustration for Wired magazine this morning.

ben_17

My desk.

ben_18

Lunchtime!

ben_19

Quiche and a salad.

ben_20

Post-lunch cup of tea.

ben_21

Got a tweet from these guys, enjoyed a browse of their site.

ben_22

Looking at packaging for our new range of fabric bags.

ben_23

Measuring the bags for new boxes.

ben_24

We rearranged the studio just recently, still need to find a place for the toys.

ben_25

Bit of emailing.

ben_26

Bit of Twitter.

ben_27

Back out to pick up Woody, take the dog for a ride.

ben_28

Drive across Somerset to run some errands.

ben_29

End of the day, nice relax with Fi.

And that’s a day in Ben’s eyes! Keep an eye on his site for fresh work, and keep an eye out for new products, like his brand new hand-made bags, over on his online store.
