Jean Jullien’s deceptively simple ideas

You can learn technique, but ideas are somewhat harder to come by. Apparently not for French artist Jean Jullien, who prides himself on the strength of good ideas. It’s a genuinely enjoyable thing to browse through his portfolio, admiring the artwork but then doing that second-take to actually think about what you’re looking at.

Most of these pieces were created for his solo show in London called “Allo?”, but some of his simple, playful pieces are great fun too — like the spine on his first picture book, Ralf (below). I feel inspired to start thinking! You can buy most of these as prints over in Jean’s shop.
